Hartalika Teej 2024: Insights into Tradition, Culture, and Devotion

Hartalika Teej 2024

In Hindu, Teej means the third day following either the full moon night (Purnima) or the no moon night (Amavsya). One of the main festivals in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh that Hindu women look forward to is Hartalika Teej 2024. The day is devoted to Goddess Parvati, who married Lord Shiva despite her austerities in a foreboding forest. Friday, September 6, 2024 is Hartalika Teej 2024.

Hartalika Teej’s Story

The words “Harat” and “Aalika,” two distinct nouns, are combined to make the term “Hartalika.” “Aalika” refers to a female companion or Sakhi, and “Harat” denotes kidnapping or abduction. The name has a fascinating backstory. From an early age, Goddess Parvati was devoted to worshiping Lord Shiva. The resolve displayed by Goddess Parvati astonished Lord Vishnu. He proposed to Narad Muni that he ask Parvati’s father for her hand in marriage. But Goddess Parvati’s thoughts were limited to Lord Shiva. She went to her friend for assistance, who took her hostage and concealed her in a forest where she worshiped Lord Shiva and practiced meditation. Goddess Parvati left a lasting impression on Lord Shiva, who thereafter agreed to marry her.
